Hit The Pavement...

What an interesting night! Whilst the inner city sweltered in the mid summer heat, and the crowds made their weary way home from work, we however embarked on a sea of rickashaws to ferry us to one of the most unique arts and events spaces in East London. Nestled under the heart of Brick Lane, MAC showcased what their makeup is capable of by hosting an underground 'Hit The Pavement'  party, which saw us mixing and moving to old school tunes, whilst surrounded by living statues expertly painted by MAC Pro Artists. The atmosphere was electric, the margaritas flowed and the statues amazingly kept their cool despite the heat...

And we're off...

Something to get your teeth into ...

With all the excitement, hustle and bustle of the end of year degree shows from a new breed of emerging designers and artists, I find myself amazed, incaptivated, intrigued and inspired by the work on offer. The RCA Show 2012 failed to disappoint with the work of Fine Art and Goldsmith Emma Montague's striking eyewear, a definite head turner. Exploring the relationship between the constructs of the jawbone and the shape and form of a sunglasses arm, saw an enchanting marriage of black horn simplicity, acetate and raw deer jawbone. The concept design amalgamates luxury and refined eloquence stripped back to reveal the raw edges of nature and decay, thus mirroring our own identities and becoming more than mere status symbols. Fragile yet edgy they are sure to surpass your average RayBan and be touted as the must have accessory by those in the know.

For the benefit of my readers I wish to inform you that all mandibles came from deer culled by The British Deer Society  and thus you can rest assured no animals were harmed in the making of these exquisite pieces.

Miss Vien Le

What better way to start my blog than with an ultimate style icon. Vien Le Wood, one of my oldest and dearest friends from across the pond is I think you will agree the definitive queen of style. Not a slave to trends, but a definite trend setter ahead of the rest. She is a creator of her own identity; alike no other, yet recognisable to her followers. Her unique take on fashion, the ability to put an eclectic mix of styles, brands and charity finds together in such an interesting way, is an art form in itself. Taking reference from culture and her own environment her ideas transform and manifest themselves beautifully and seemingly effortlessly. Chic yet savvy; beautifully different; dazzling to observe; Vien Le crafts, knits, strips and remoulds clothing to make even the blandest garment a feast for the eye. An original queen of cool, she is a definite treasure that needs to be seen to be believed. Judge for yourselves...

And the story doesn't end there... Oh no, for Vien Le's talents don't just manifest in her own attire, she is a remarkable print and embroidery designer in her own right. Trained at Northumbria University and Glasgow School of Art; with Anthropologie and Rebeca Taylor to her name, she was also awarded the ‘Fashion At Belsay’ fellowship commissioned by English Heritage and the Arts Council of England, which saw her exhibited alongside fashion designers: Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Paul Smith, Eley Kishimoto and Zandra Rhodes as well as being showcased in Selfridges. She's a definite one to watch our Vel...
